Pre-provisioning of upgrade files on remote nodes
There is an option for Pre-provisioning the upgrade files on distributed nodes.
When upgrade is performed on a multi-node environment via algosec_conf (Option 8 - Software Upgrade), the run-time upgrade files are automatically distributed to all the relevant distribution nodes and HA/DRs.
In some cases, however, customers would like to manually install the upgrade files on the remote agents. This is the case when speed of communication between the primary DN and some of the distributed nodes is slow or unreliable. Copying these large files from the main DN to some of these nodes can take a lot of time, lengthening the time of the total upgrade.
To pre-install the run-time upgrade files on required remote agents:
-
Place the files of the upgrade on the primary Central Manager in the folder /root/Algosec_Upgrade. (This is standard for all upgrades).
-
Copy the files to the same folder on each of the remote agents for which you have decided that pre-installation of the installation run-time files will be advantageous.
-
In algosec_conf, select Option 8. Upgrade software.
Notes:
-
The main upgrade program will update the remote nodes once and only copy the installation files to remote agents where these installation files have not been pre-installed.
-
When the upgrades on remote nodes finish, the run-time files will be automatically removed.
-
If there was a failure in finding or using the pre-provided files, or something became corrupted in the pre-provided files, the required files will be copied from the CM to the RA during the upgrade.
-
The user will not see any messages about this on their screen during upgrade, but this will be recorded in the log. If there are any problems with the run-time files, the upgrade will not fail, but rather the required file will be copied to the node undergoing upgrade and the upgrade will proceed or restart.
