Manual Failover for DR

This procedure describes manual failover procedures for Disaster Recovery (DR) clusters.

Switching appliance modes is a crucial step in the manual failover process for DR clusters, enabling the secondary appliance to take over as primary in the event of a significant failure. This ensures data integrity and system availability during primary appliance maintenance or recovery.

Do the following:

  1. Connect to the ASMS Administration Interface. For details, see Connect to and Utilize the Administration Interface.

    You can perform this procedure from either appliance, unless the primary appliance is already down.

  2. Enter 13. The console displays details about the cluster, including primary and secondary nodes and their statuses.

    For example:

    AlgoSec DR cluster status:
    1. Primary 10.10.0.101 - Up (this appliance)
    2. Secondary 10.10.0.102 - Up
    * VIP - 10.10.0.103
    10.10.0.101 -> 10.10.0.102 : Synced
    Please select an item or enter 'a' to abort:
    1. View cluster status details
    2. Remove DR configuration
    3. Switch roles
    4. View/Edit Cluster parameters
    5. Collect Logs
  3. To switch roles, select option 3 when prompted.

  4. Confirm the role switch by entering y. This will synchronize data from the primary to the secondary node, activating the secondary node as the new primary.

    When the process is complete, a success message appears with the cluster status. An email notification is also sent to the Administrator.

  5. Reconfigure load units as follows:

    1. Enter algosec_conf to return to the main menu.

    2. To adjust the Distributed Architecture configuration, enter 15 and proceed to:

      • Activate load units that connect to the DR node (now primary).

      • Disable or remove the load units connected to primary (now secondary).
